In Development: CSV Upload Enhancements
We are currently working on enhancements to our CSV Upload feature which will include updating existing data, larger file sizes and more. We have some ideas below, but we’d love to talk with you about how you’re currently using CSV Upload and some of the challenges you face. You can click the link below to set up some time to talk to us individually or share your thoughts in the comments of the post.
CURRENT CHALLENGES
- Upload size is too small
- Can't upload to existing data
- Media URLs
- Lack of messaging/upload status errors
- Uploading to Subforms
- Can't assign records
- No Trigger Post Processing
ENHANCEMENT IDEAS
- Ability to map CSV data to data columns using a new UI
- Ability to accept "null" data
- Data check that would have you correct any errors before upload
- Other acceptable data types besides CSV
- New UI interface
We want to hear from you. So let us know what enhancements you'd like to see and what your biggest challenges are.

In the past I've had some issues with CSV files saved in Excel. I don't know what it is or why it happens but the first column won't be included in the upload. I've solved this by literally copy/pasting the Excel data into Google Sheets and exporting, but if this can be fixed it'd be awesome.
Also, custom delimiters could be helpful. It's rare but I've seen tab-separated files and sometimes vertical bars ( | ) for data that actually has commas in it.

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to share a mock-up of kind of what we have in mind for Phase 1 of the CSV Upload Enhancement and the new UI. We would love to hear your feedback. Keep in mind this is just a mock-up to give an idea of what this could look like and do. Nothing is set in stone (subject to change), we just want to get the conversation started. Let us know what you think!
STEP 1. You would choose your profile (if server admin) and then your form you'll be uploading data to and upload your file.
STEP 2. It would confirm if your file is accepted.
STEP 3. This always you to add to existing records or create new. You would also be able to map fields from your file to your form. This would alleviate having to match data column names on your file to those of your form. It also allows you to assign records based on having that column in your file.
STEP 4. This is your advanced settings such as Trigger Post and email notification.
STEP 5. This is where you can view the reports of your upload: what failed, why, etc. This is something we hope to be able to include but will need a lot of backend research.
