Announcement: iForm for Android Ending Support for Android OS 4.x Devices
Here at Zerion, we constantly work to provide the most secure and best-performing experience for our users. In order for this to continue, we must stop supporting Android Devices running 4.4. This means that users who are running Android OS 4.4 will not be able to download any new updates of the iForm or iForm ES Application unless you are running Android OS 5.0 or greater.
Why are we doing this?
Security - Android 4.4 is over 5 years old and many security improvements have been implemented in later versions of Android.
Features and Performance Improvements - We will be able to implement new functionality that was not possible in earlier versions of Android.
To keep up to date follow our Android End of Life Schedule.
When will this change occur?
This change will occur with the release of iForm for Android 8.8 which is expected to be completed by Mid April. Follow our Android release notes to stay up to date with our 8.8 release.
How do I know if I have Android OS 4.x?
This varies by Android Device but you will want to perform the following steps:
- Open ‘Device Settings’
- Select ‘About Phone’ and you will see your Operating System
How can I get the latest OS?
Your Android devices may be able to upgrade to a newer OS version 5.0 or higher. Checking for updates does vary by device but these steps should allow you to see if you can get system updates.
- Open ‘Device Settings’
- Select ‘About Phone’
- Select ‘System Updates’
How will this affect my users?
If you have users running Android OS 4.4, they will continue to be able to sync down form changes and upload records. They will not be able to take any new updates to the iForm Application. However, since we are no longer supporting Android 4.4 device after the iForm 8.8 Android update it is recommended that users upgrade their device to the newest OS possible.
What if I am running a White Labeled Version of the App?
Users with White Label Applications can continue running the current version they are actively running but if they choose to take an app update they must have their device updated to Android OS 5.0 or higher in order to take any additional updates.
