What is a ZPL file?
A ZPL file is the Zebra Programming Language which defines the format in which the printer will print out.
How do I populate text in my ZPL file based on a form element?
In this section, we will discuss how to add text to your ZPL file based on an element in your form.
Please make sure you have set up your ZPL file.
STEP 1. Click the Text icon on the left-hand side and drag it onto the Label Design screen where you would like to place your text.
STEP 2. Double click on the object you just added.
STEP 3. From the Source tab, click the Data drop-down and select Variable keyboard input.
You will be brought to the following screen. At this point, you will need to navigate to iFormBuilder to get the information needed (data_column_name) for the Prompt text field.
STEP 4. From the iFormBuilder Admin Portal, hover over the Forms tab and select Form Builder.
STEP 5. Choose the form you'll be printing from.
STEP 6. Select the element and copy the data column name you'll be mapping into the Prompt text field.
STEP 7. Paste the data column name into the Prompt Text field.
STEP 8. Select the Style tab and make sure Show printer fonts only is clicked. This is important because, in order for the data to be printed out, you must select a font that is available on your printer.
STEP 9. Choose your font and click Apply.
STEP 10. To save your ZPL file, click the File drop-down.
STEP 11. Select Save As and click Browse.
STEP 12. Name your file and click Save.
PLEASE NOTE: You must remember this file name as it will be used for printing this ZPL file when using it with iForm.
After saving your ZPL file, you'll need to store it.
STEP 13. Click the File drop-down.
STEP 14. On the following screen, select Store.
STEP 15. Make sure Speed and Darkness are set.
STEP 16. Set Store Variant to Internal Flash.
STEP 17. Click Store to Printer.
The ZPL file is now stored on the printer for use.
