What is a ZPL file?

A ZPL file is the Zebra Programming Language which defines the format in which the printer will print out. 

How do I configure a ZPL file?

Follow the instructions below on how to set up your ZPL File.

THINGS TO NOTE:

• You must be running a Windows Operating System to set this up.
• For this documentation, we are using Zebra Designer 3

STEP 1. Make sure you have installed Zebra Designer 3 and Zebra Setup Utilities.

STEP 2. Be sure your Zebra printer is on and connected to your computer via USB.

STEP 3. Open Zebra Designer 3 on your Windows machine.

STEP 4. Click Create a New Label.

STEP 5. It will bring you to a screen where you will set up the Label. Select your printer and click Next to configure the Label to match the specifications of your printer and paper.

STEP 6. Choose the layout of the label and click Next.

STEP 7. Specify the dimensions of your label. This should match the label printing paper that you are planning on using for the Label. Once this is complete, click Next.

STEP 8. Specify the page size and click Next.

STEP 9. Once your specifications are complete, click Finish.

You will be brought to the editor screen where you can do any of the following:

• How do I add static text to my ZPL file?
• How do I populate text in my ZPL file based a form element?
• How do I set up my ZPL file to print barcodes?
• How do I print images through my ZPL file? (Documentation coming soon.)

STEP 10. To save your ZPL file, click the File drop-down.

STEP 11. Select Save As and click Browse.

STEP 12. Name your file and click Save.

PLEASE NOTE: You must remember this file name as it will be used for printing this ZPL file when using it with iForm.

After saving your ZPL file, you'll need to store it so it is available to print.

STEP 13. Click the File drop-down.

STEP 14. On the following screen, select Store.

STEP 15. Make sure Speed and Darkness are set.

STEP 16. Set Store Variant to Internal Flash.

STEP 17. Click Store to Printer.

The ZPL file is now stored on the printer for use.
