form builder elements
What's covered:
What is the Attachment element?
The Attachment element allows you to link files (PDF, MOV, MP4, HTML) to your mobile device's local database or external web content (connection required) within your form. When you are inside the element, it will open up the browser to be able to view a webpage or a file.
If the attachment link points to an allowed static file, it will be downloaded locally so that it can be viewed offline. In all other scenarios, an internet connection is required.
If you are unable to view a static file, it was not downloaded successfully:
- URL is pointing to a web service instead of an individual file
- URL is broken
- URL is dynamic
PLEASE NOTE: If you update the attachment element with a new file, you will need to make sure there is a form version update in order for the app or webform to sync those changes. The form version updates when there is a change saved to the form, including an update in the attachment link URL. Once the save is made, the version at the bottom of the Form Builder screen will increment and syncing the app will pull down the new changes. Removing the file from the original resource will not remove it from Form Builder. (i.e. Deleting file from Dropbox or Box)
How do I attach files to my form?
To add an Attachment element to your form, please follow the instructions below.
STEP 1. With your form loaded in the Form Builder, click the Attachment button from the left-hand menu.
STEP 2. On the right-hand side, you'll see the element properties. Enter the name of your element.
PLEASE NOTE: If you check the Based on Label option, it will create a data column based on the Label on the element.
STEP 3. Under the Element Properties tab, add the URL pointing to your file or website in the Attachment Link field. If you are trying to upload a PDF and it is not a public link, you can upload it into a file hosting site such as Dropbox or Box. Make sure to link your iFormBuilder account to your media storage.
